A Theater Production: Late 19th Century Richmond journalist, John H. Mitchell Jr., used his position and platform as Editor in Chief of the weekly publication The Richmond Planet to advocate for and shine a light on the injustices faced by, as well as the accomplishments made by Richmond's black population, and the commonwealth's population as a whole. At a time when Lynch-law mentality caused almost daily killings around the nation, Mitchell used eloquently written prose to show his willingness to face dangerous situations -- armed and ready. His courageous feats on behalf of, as well as his compassion towards society's most vulnerable population, caused the nationwide press to dub him the "Fighting Editor." Our Man Mitchell chronicles the life and times of this Richmond hero.
